Writing for Success

Develop text and additional written materials that will help others understand what your work is really about. This interactive workshop features writing activities, peer reviews and editing, and written and verbal feedback.
Learn how to:
•Define your artistic product and differentiate it from the work of other artists.
•Communicate the context in which you create your work.
•Describe what you do in layman’s terms.
•Write a treatment that is vivid and succinct.
•Create a press packet that looks professional and gets attention.
•Create a written budget that is detailed and realistic.
•Write a cover letter that makes an instant impression.

Get the skills you need to present yourself and your work successfully. This interactive worship will help you communicate your message in any business setting, rehearse for an in-person interview with a potential funder, and handle difficult questions with grace. Learn how to:
•Deliver your “elevator pitch.”
•Adapt your message to your specific listener.
•Tell your “essential story.”
•Reframe an interview question and answer questions succinctly.
•Handle difficult questions with grace.
•Demonstrate enthusiasm about your work in a business setting.
•Exhibit professional demeanor in grooming and appearance.

Open to artists 18 or older who are interested in sharpening their business skills.
Participation in both workshops is recommended for artists applying for the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County’s Miami Made Commissioning Program. www.arshtcenter.org/miamimade

Single Sessions: $40 (lunch and snacks included in registration fee)
PRICE BREAK FOR TWO SESSIONS:
Register for one “Writing for Success” session and one “Presenting for Success” session for $70 (a $10 savings!)
Space is limited and reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with payment.
