While working on the original painting series inspired by the Deepwater Horizon 2010 event in the Gulf of Mexico, I sometimes had leftover paint and lots of extra paper. The paint and colors left over were not "moody" enough for how I felt about the event, so I would play.

This sheet of paper received the obvious colors of purples, yellows, blues, and reds.  Utrecht's American Masters paper takes a LOT of abuse. This time I probably went to hard some where along the journey, and the surface of the paper ripped off.

Well, when paper rips off, you already know that the texture of the paper changes. Remember the time before Post-It Notes and UPC bar codes existed? If you do, remember what happened when you pulled a price sticker off a book cover or a gift box? Remember how annoying it was to try to camouflage that "fuzzy" white spot that obviously looked as if a price sticker was ripped from it? Ugh.

The "sticker ripped off" effect is what happened to this paper. I love how the paint applied to it! Do I rip the paper into different sizes and use them in something later? Sigh...

Me being the cheap chick I can be (just ask Andy and my Mama), I kept thinking about what I could do to save the beautiful pattern of paint and the paper. I hang the painting on a safe studio wall and take a snapshot of it. After a few weeks of just studying the paper, voila!!!! I see wolves there!!!! With a few more areas of paper ripped off and some blue paint, there are the wolves in their full howling beauty, on a wonderfully rocky cliff with their muzzles pointed to the colors of the sky at dawn or sunset.

Hope you like the wolves! In case you are wondering, they may not be alone....See anything else in the painting? Let me know!
