Save Libraries and Elephants

Palm tree detail.

Detail of small elephant with book.

Elephants with Palm Trees, mixed media on canvas board,
8x8 inches, $100

Took a small break because these elephants have whispered that they want to be out there, sharing their story.

They are in this painting to celebrate the month of September. September is Library Card Sign Up Month, Read a New Book Month, Read a Book Day and Elephant Appreciation Day.

It is an upsetting time to be a book lover in Miami-Dade, Florida. The public library system has hours slashed. Those that work in the library system are losing jobs. As a serious book worm, the idea that I cannot go to the downtown library branch on the weekend saddens me. If you would like to read more about some of the news, I found a post in the Huffington Post. I would include links to the Miami Herald, but their articles disappear after a while.

As for the elephants, they live in under the threat of poaching. These beautiful creatures deserve respect and safety.

Now getting off of my soapbox. Hope you enjoy the details and the painting!

If you have any design ideas for November, please make a few suggestions. Am stuck for ideas...
