Simon at Window (with Blinds)

Simon at the Window (with Blinds), 2010, 11 x 14 inches, mixed media on canvas, $125.

This little piece started out as a palette (as usual) and ended up a fun mixed media piece. Paper, paint, cut outs from my job's roll of paper and my sketchpad all are on this piece.

Simon (the cat) is one of my favorite characters to catch on paper. He runs around our home as if his tail was on fire, or you can find him on the sofa we call "mini-red" catching a nap. Simon has to be in the same room as either of his humans, Andy or me. He will whine until we are "with him." This sketch catches him in just that moment: has to be with us but not on us. One of his favorite places, like most cats, is in the sun, hence the blinds and the light.

Do you have a cat? It is alright to be a dog person, but there has to be at least one cool cat (no puns intended) that you have met! Does this cat have a favorite place, and if so, what is it?

Smiles!

Is the mixed media something that you recently started working with or have you been doing it for a bit of time? I confess that I have not been a strong student of paintings so this idea is a bit new to me. The strange part is... I don't hate it!!

Awesome job!
