Video Part 2: Encaustic with Gouache
Second video trying the encaustic with gouache technique. Still not what I expected, but this was still fun.
Will I try this technique again with another art piece? For now, probably not....What is your thought on this technique? Should I give this technique another try?

Hey, that was cool! I didn't see the first video so I didn't know what you were hoping for but when it cracked it was amazing. The organic edges have a very map-like feel, like Google Earth with better colors. I'm not sure how you could control the wax underneath. A thinner layer of gouache? The underpainting has your usual beautiful fluid colors and I hated to see them run. But I must say, peeling away the flat surface like that is very interesting. It makes me wonder what's in gouache.
A-M: Who am I to say, but it is so interesting that if I were an artist, I might try to perfect the technique as a long-term goal.

I was expecting a real crack, not the pop. The photo in the book showing the technique has cracks, but the paint is also shinier. I wonder if it was a mistake that gouache was used and not acrylics? Need to try that one...but I don't think acrylics stay on wax (from the little tried).

I don't think there is a way to perfect the technique. =) But, it is included in my arsenal of ideas for when I need to create an effect or just need a creative break. =)
