Boat Races in Key West, Florida

Series of sketches based on the boat races, none I consider very well done but all were very satisfying as it has been a very busy couple of months with few moments with a paint brush!

All that is needed now is the plane! Andy's phrase is "boys and their toys!" No kidding!

I love these plumes of water!!!

A few photos...from the over 1,500 taken this entire weekend!

For more about the boat races, please visit SuperBoat.com where they are uploading photos from this weekend's event.

Now, back to sketch painting!

Florida may not have Mountains...

This past weekend, Andy and I had an adventure to Key West on his BMW motorcycle. Most of the talk in biker groups is about twisty-turny roads, mud, mountains, switchbacks, hills, and stuff that is difficult to find in Florida.

So, Florida does not have mountains. Artists and photographers seem to have a similar gripe: but everything is flat! straight! boring! Boring? What?

South Florida has COLOR. Blasting COLORS: hot, delicious, juicy COLORS. South Florida has clouds that are unbelievable and fantastic in shapes, sizes, and compositions. Blink, and it is for the scene in front of you to change and shift. Ok, it helped that I was on the back of Andy's motorcycle with the camera, but really Florida can change that quickly.

These are some sample reference photos for future art shot this past weekend. They are all about the fun and colors.

Why Key West, any way???

This weekend, we spent in Key West. We love to spend our time at an little inn called Cypress House. The people that work here (Stephen, Dennis, Chris, their boss Dave), the cozy, comfy rooms, and the breakfast and happy hour menus help make this a dreamy place just off Duval Street. We drove down for the Southernmost Air Spectacular this time, and Andy quickly convinced me to make it another adventure.

The air show was fantastic. The Pirated Skies, Tim Weber and all of the performers did a beautiful job displaying flying tricks. The military flight groups just gave a huge boost in pride for being a US Citizen, with the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron Blue Angels, Strike Fighter Squadron Gladiators, the Screaming Eagles, etc. performing aerial gymnastics. The flying was so much more than I expected, that all my time was spent looking up into the sky and almost wishing I could do that, too.

The weather was sunny and hot, the sky a gorgeous blue. Too hot to sketch, so instead I just played with my little point and shoot camera. Will I even paint or draw these magnificent planes? Who knows? Sometimes, you have to enjoy the experience.

Vacation!!!! Key West!

I'm back from vacation! I'm all ready to go, once again, on more art adventures! LOL

Andy & I stayed at the Cypress House (google it w/Key West) all last week. It was WONDERFUL! Bike riding, swimming, walking, eating, repeat cycle.

Faithfully, I took my sketch materials along with some paint materials. NONE of it made it out of the bag. Sometimes, the machine has to turn off. It was good. Now for June, it's a different story!

Until the next!
