Dream Variations

Dream Variations ©2013 Angeline Marie
11x14 in. mixed media on canvas

You have a desire to create something...but you don't know how to even begin your idea.

My desire is to create a calendar to share with you, but of what was always the jam!

That desire has remained...and the jam ended when I took Lisa Call's class Working in a Series last year

Of what is my calendar? Of palm trees! Of new paintings and old paintings of palm trees! Most are new paintings...although there are plenty of older palm tree paintings from which to choose...some were part of my exhibit Absence of Green in late 2011.

This painting Dream Variations was inspired by one of my favorite poets Langston Hughes. His birthday was in February. February is also inspired by the American Heart Association who "owns" the month, hence the suggested hearts in the palm trees. Valentine's Day was not an influence, if only because neither my husband nor I recognize the day differently than any other day (we're always looking for ways to spoil each other, LOL).

If you like the design, but prefer it as a card for Valentine's Day, you can get a card from my Zazzle account [click on this paragraph]. Proceeds from sales will go towards the American Heart Association. The card is blank, which is great for those times you need to send a little love no matter what the calendar date.

Want the original painting? You can get it just in time for Valentine's Day, with shipping included for $135. Buy Now - Dream Variations, $135

Oh...and if you'd like a FREE Calendar Page every month featuring an original painting by me, please sign up for my newsletter. Just go to the right side of this blog page and click on the block that appears about signing up for it. February's calendar page is of Dream Variations.

Where did you hang Dream Variations, if you got the calendar page?

If you would like to read the poem Dream Variations by Langston Hughes, you can find it after my signature.

Smiles!!!!

Dream Variations
To fling my arms wide
In some place of the sun,
To whirl and to dance
Till the white day is done.
Then rest at cool evening
Beneath a tall tree
While night comes on gently,
Dark like me-
That is my dream!
To fling my arms wide
In the face of the sun,
Dance! Whirl! Whirl!
Till the quick day is done.
Rest at pale evening...
A tall, slim tree...
Night coming tenderly
Black like me.
