Animal Palm Tree with Cubist Traits Original Painting

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Red is the opposite of green on the color wheel, making the two colors complimentary. There are three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. When you combine any two of the colors, the color left out is automatically the complementary.

Yellow + Blue = Green
Red is left out
Therefore, Red and Green are Complementary.

So, I will wear a little green today while preferring red and using red today here in this post to you.

Wearing green is just to avoid the annoying people who believe they can pinch you because you are not wearing green. Ugh. There is ONE person allowed to pinch me, EVER: Husband Andy. He can pinch any where and any time he wants. LOL

A bit about this painting Animal Palm Tree with Cubist Traits:
This painting is an abstracted palm tree. I applied the red, black, and whites to create a sense of depth. Some of the lines of the palm tree's full fronds were moved, erased, etc. to make the shapes. I see a few almost animals in this composition. This is one of my favorite 2015 paintings just because it's like an eye safari. Look around it, share what animals you see, please!

Blue, White, Red Palm Tree Paintings in a Row

Silly me.

I just realized how disorganized I am. My perfect plan was to link this post to the individual posts of each palm tree art featured here. But, I can't find the links to these, lol.

Here's the basic info as I remember, from left to right:

Lollipop Palm Trees, 14 x 11 inches, acrylics on canvas board

Palm Trees Collage, 14 x 11 inches, collage on paper

White Palm Tree Lines on Red, 14 x 11 inches, acrylics on canvas board

They are featured together today to show how nicely some of my palm tree art looks hanging together.

Mi Mama asks me sometimes to paint large...but I have fun with the small paintings.

When you group these together, without frames, these three paintings alone take up 14 x 33 inches of wall space. That is a respectable amount of wall space! Add some frames, and the paintings may cover about 20 x 48 inches.

Mi Mama isn't on the Internet at all. Maybe I should mention grouping my paintings to her? Lol

This is week seven of Abstractions class with Lisa Call...and I am LOVING IT!

What a mind warp! Twist! FUN! Learning! WOW! The sketches I have in my books to paint keep me constantly looking for studio time!

Abstracted Palm Tree Forest was a fun little painting. I used most of the natural lines found in the wood. Prussian blue is now my favorite blue...how rick and deep it is!

If you are wondering why I paint small, it's the almost instant gratification of knowing if my painting is working or not. Simple as that.

If you are wondering if any of my paintings can be made larger - yes! Let me know and I'll paint a large palm tree of your choice design any time you like!

Icelandic Influenced Palm Tree Abstract Mixed Media Art

A friend Brian and I attended Art Basel in 2006. At this exhibit, there was a huge wall covered with glass shards offered as art. It was beautiful and startling, stark glass fragments on a glaring white wall.

On a dare, I asked how much to take the artwork home. Turns out, the Icelandic artist offers mini do-it-yourself kits to make your own installation of the work on about a size of 14 x 11 inch wall. I remember thinking that for the price, the boxes should be better than cardboard! The patron had three choices: glass, pebbles, or lava rocks.

As a joke, Brian received a 14 x 11 inch canvasboard covered with brown pebbles for Christmas that year. It actually turned out very cool. I don't have a photo of it...but the memory of the piece inspired this one, Icelandic Influenced Palm Tree Abstract.

Pebbles are used on the bottom, then used tea, then sawdust, and lastly at the top is Florida beach sand.

I love how the blue abstract palm frond leaves stand out against the yellow black textured background.

3 Red Palm Tree Paintings to Keep You Warm

This post is all about Red.

Red for heat, melting snow, sandy beaches, warm ocean waters, hot palm trees casting shade over your chair.

These are just three of my red palm tree paintings that feature reds (oranges, too!). They were not painted at the same time...but they still look great together, lol. Together, they are 8 by 24 inches, unframed.

My favorite color is actually blue. My Scorpio color is a deep rich red wine color. My month colors are opal (fire! yay!) and pink. I do adore red...obvious from all the palm tree paintings that feature red, LOL.

Red Triangles Palm Tree Painting

If you can't tell, I'm crazy about palm trees, LOL.

The negative spaces created by these palm fronds are a medium orange-yellow. The actual palm tree branches are red...but for the sun highlighted branches in yellows. Texture was created with modeling paste.

I am relieved that the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge is over for now. Leslie Saeta promises it will happen again this 2015, but for now, it's rest, recuperate, re-energize!

The last few days were spent with Andy and a snowbird friend, bicycle riding and sketching the nearby horses (yeah - I love our home), getting some sun (yeah - I love Florida), seafood dinners, ignoring the Super Bowl (isn't that soup?), killing myself with a 60 minute Fitnessblender video...if I've been a couple of hours in my art studio, it would be a stretch.

I do miss sharing a new painting with you...even it was a little overwhelming, perhaps, for you, too! I did find this one, and will group it with a couple of red themed palm trees for an upcoming blog post.

YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY

You will be hearing and seeing a bit less of me, going forward in 2015, lol.

I will keep painting up a lot in my lovely wonderful art studio...just sharing new art more slowly.

If I get a chance later to make the last challenge, a photo collage of all 30 pieces, then I will post it tomorrow. If not, then expect to see that wrap up next week. Friends are priority this week...and it's been difficult to finish the challenge.

Looking Up Palm Trees - Keeping it Simple!

Tomorrow is the LAST day of this round of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge by Leslie Saeta!

I kept it simple today: Looking Up Palm Trees is about 3 by 2 inches. Andy cut some pieces of leftover project wood for me to use as canvas last weekend. This one had a beautiful knot and splits in the wood. Using "leftover" paint, I quickly rendered this tiny design.

Priorities this week are to enjoy our friends: Marty from Georgia, USA and Jeff from Illinois. One leaves (sad) and the other arrives (LOL). Plus, since I have to go to jury duty (YIKES I hope I won't be chosen!), the evening after will be a treat to spend with mi Mama before going home.

Although I'd rather be in the studio most times, this week it's ok that I have perhaps 90 minutes.

Enough to finish out the challenge. YAY!

Did you know palm trees have flowers?

This little abstract is based on the palm tree that has the little white flowers hanging on it. Forgive me, but I haven't had a chance to learn about all the varieties of palm trees. This type of palm tree is one of my favorites...and I have tons of photos of this type of palm tree, lol.

In Honor of the Royal Original Mixed Media Art

On Saturday, August 16th, 2014, there was a terrific thunder and lightning storm at our home, the A2 Resort (A2 means A-squared, but can't make the 2 superscript in many programs, lol). It was about 5 pm and Andy and I were watching the storm from our enclosed back patio. Lightning boomed, Simon cat scratched my leg, Andy yelled, I whimpered, and ashes were floating down best they could in a downpour of rain. The lightning hit our royal palm tree.

We saw it. We saw the trenches in the grass where the lightning traveled. Lucky for us, the strike traveled away from the house. Our royal palm tree kept us safe.

We kept hope that it would live...but our once lovely royal palm tree may last a sad month more. The new frond that is supposed to be green and proud grew out as brown and burnt, and the rest of the fronds are turning brown and bending at strange sad angles. We would let the tree trunk stand...but with it's height of about 30 feet and only one place to safely land without damaging further property...so much for the woodpeckers who are beginning to check it out as a new home.

I didn't intend for this art piece to be commemorative, but after choosing the brown papers and silver background, it feels like In Honor of the Royal.

Andy is one of my main sounding boards (ok, viewing) when it comes to deciding a piece is finished or not. It was almost finished when he texted me that description. My other viewing board happens to be my iPhone camera...amazing what doesn't look good in miniature, lol.

Did you think I missed a day? Almost! Just missed a day of email, lol.

In the Abstraction class I am taking the focus recently was the design element of contrast. I am trying to move out of my color comfort zone...but didn't venture much out of it with this color composition, lol. I have lots a palm tree paintings with various shades of reds, oranges, and blues! I love how the blue and red orange vibrate when they are next to each other, like in this composition.

Including today - there are SIX days left. I hope you are enjoying my new paintings as much as I enjoy sharing them!

At least they are not high pressure sales? as in BUY NOW! LIMITED EDITION OF 1! Tomorrow expires! like SO many emails I get from regular companies.

There are just 7 days left and 1 collage photo. Think you can bear with me a little while longer? Then...I'll email you way less.

Day 19....

I see something new every time I look at this artwork: a new color, a shine, something that happened accidentally. This was supposed to be a painting...but it was so flat and uninteresting that I dug into my collage stash. I quite like the results...even if just a tad darker mood thank I had intended. It was always intended to be abstract.

Silver Palm Trees Over Sunset

Silver Palm Sunset began as a regret. It was a big yellow ball of a sun interrupted only by a weird looking silhouette of some kind of bird all "pasted" onto a semi-interesting background of color dominated by a burgundy red crimson.

Yes, I HATED it. LOL

Until I decided that I truly did dislike it and it was time to destroy it. The original description of the painting (ball of sun, etc.) applied since perhaps 2004? I don't remember! Destruction occurred last year with smears of leftover paint onto it. I didn't care what colors were smeared on it.

One of my sketches is of a palm tree line at the beach. It's based on a photo my friend (almost like little sister) Daimisy sent me. Silver Palm Sunset is based on my sketch of her photo.

I quite like the mysterious shapes and the now not so obvious ball of sun. LOL

This is another painting finished over the weekend. Jester Palm Tree... do you see the palm tree?

I have to get back into my art studio quickly!!! I'm excited by a few ideas singing at me to get placed onto canvas and thankfully have those ideas captured in my sketchbook. Only thing left before painting is to look up a color combination, lol. So many color choices! So many paintings I can make! LOL

We are half way through the month...and so far I've had a new to you painting every single day this month. I need to get back into my studio quickly, LOL.

Carnival Abstract Palm Tree

This is one of the three paintings I finished THIS month!

I am learning how to think abstractly, which is very different than thinking realistically or even impressionistically.

This was a fun painting to make using sketches and crayons to plan it. It doesn't look very much like my crayon sketch, but that just means I have ideas for more paintings, LOL!

This painting began with a simple shape drawing of a palm tree. From there, added and altered lines and then colors. The process is very different than I learned last year through the MoMA Collage class and cubism.

This painting has been on my review shelf for months...and months...and months. It began with textures. Turned into something that was painted over so long ago there is no memory and photograph of it. Then it got a few painting doodles on it in red. Then, then, then, then!

Remember that book Color Inspirations I mentioned a few days ago? Here is another one.

I'm so excited that in this past week Lisa Call's Abstraction class began finally! This is my fourth class with her...and my mind is already spinning the first week. Spinning in a good way. I might have some palm tree abstractions, way different than what I've done on my own, to share soon. No promises, though. If they aren't that great, they get painted over and never photographed. LOL
