Bright Trees - 2nd Painting on Open Art Studio Postcard

Bright Trees,  20 x 24 inches, mixed media on canvas,  $780 by Angeline
When I made the video about why I chose this painting, I didn't have marked on the back the year.

As you can see, I found the digital file which dates this painting to 2007, lol.

By 2007, I had a couple of years of painting with Baruj Salinas. My best friend, an older lady Angie Leo, passed away in January.

Painting was joy and a challenge...learning how to manipulate paint and textures...it was just my missing friend that added sadness.

Big difference between Tomando Vuelo and Bright Trees, eh?

To learn why I chose this painting, hope over to my YouTube Channel by clicking on this sentence if the link below doesn't work for you (with a dash of please and thank you, lol).

PS: Happy Leap Year Day!

You're invited to my Open Studio called Organized Chaos: Retrospective of Art. It means you may visit my happy-fun-wonderful-chaotic-art-making place and see some of the paintings made! It's March 11-12, 2016 and you can find more details by visiting my webpage www.angelinemarie.net/exhibits.html

Gearing Up for an Art Exhibit

Yes, this is a mess...note carefully that it is an organized mess. These are photos from January, when I hung new palm tree art at Chefs on the Run. It's time to make my studio floor look like this again, for an art change out at Chefs and a new exhibit at the Homestead Community Center hosted by Homestead's Chamber of Commerce.

For more details about either Chefs or Absence of Green at the Center, hop over to my website. Information about Chefs is in this link, while about the Center is in this link.

If you would like to see more paintings in person, please visit one of my favorite restaurants, Chefs on the Run Assorted Cuisine.

Coming to the Homestead Community Center, my exhibit of Absence of Green will begin on May 1st, 2014. Hope to see you there!

Refresh Yourself at Chefs on the Run

See some of the palm tree paintings fresh off my easel. The paintings that are not landscapes or palm trees, lol, are those of Clay Frye.

Enjoy one of Chef Jodrick's award-winning hamburgers, too!

Sold, Exhibit Over, with Done

Jim, me, and Kathy with their new paintings. They walked right out of the
Homestead, Florida Chamber of Commerce (City Hall) with them.

The exhibit came down, but after Jim and Kathy found new paintings for their home!

Note found with my business cards at the exhibit.
Signed and dated. Thank you for noticing, Md.

It is sad to take an exhibit down, especially after lovely feedback.

You know, I am already a happy artist. This comment left at my exhibit at the Homestead Chamber of Commerce makes me happier.

Thank you for your kind words, Md Burkhart!!!!!

Palm Tree Candles, acrylics on canvasboard, 8 x 8 inches.
Remember this was the one I was working last week?
I made enough changes and signed it. Done!
Finally, that painting that I asked what changed? More changed. It is finished. It is done. You can go back to the previous post about it here to see how it changed.

Now you are all caught up with some things around my art studio. If you missed it on Facebook about my new easel, it is enough to know it is WONDERFUL (special thanks to my husband, Andy!!!!).

More news from the studio, including Expiring Paintings and my new February calendar page are coming soon.

Absence of Green - New Paintings Exhibit

What: Art exhibit with new and old works with palm trees.

Where: Homestead Chamber of Commerce, 790 N. Homestead Blvd, Homestead, Florida, 33030

When: Opening introduction on November 14th, 2012 at 5 pm. Exhibit open until January 4th, 2013. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am through 5 pm.

About:
Palm trees are protective, nurturing, practical, and gorgeous and somehow silly. In Florida, miles of green palm trees are expected and depicted in most art. Consciously rejecting the idea of realism, the majority of this palm tree art has an Absence of Green. This art exhibit of palm trees is punctuated by green, existing here among the oranges, browns, reds, purples, blues, and yellows. Green is absent to highlight the shapes and patterns created by palm trees. Aspects and expressions of palm trees are explored through textures and patterns.  Absence of Green, an art exhibit to express the love of palm trees with minimal use of the color green.

Save the date! You are invited to share more art at my exhibit Absence of Green at Homestead Chamber of Commerce, Florida on November 14, 2012. Exhibit will run through January 4th, 2013.

Yes, I am grateful. Yes, I am still excited. Funny thing happened, no one asked me if I had packed for Paris, yet!

Fridays in France: Have You Packed Yet?

Everything is crazy right now in my life.
Most is of good things...
just one lingering white elephant...
but life is good
with twists, turns, and changes
and lucky me
every one I love is alright or getting better.
Thank God.

Conversation pattern lately:
Someone: Have you packed yet for Paris?
Me: Not yet.
Someone: What do you mean? You leave soon!
Me: I am busy getting ready for my art exhibit.
Me: It is eight days before I leave for Paris! Am so excited because it is my first art exhibit!
Someone: Oh.
Me: You are welcome to attend! Come out for a nice Saturday night for art.
Someone: Oh. Well, sure. That is exciting, too (words dripping doubt). But you are going to pack soon for Paris?
Me: Yes, starting the day after the exhibit opening.

In the meantime, my friends Elcira and Janis have packed, re-packed, and weighed their luggage. Guess what I will be doing two days before I leave?

You are invited to share almost the same conversation with me tomorrow night. LOL

7 Things to Expect at an Art Exhibit Opening

A friend of mine recently asked me about what to expect at an art exhibit. Here are seven things to expect at an art exhibit opening, at least in my experiences:

1. Lots of art on display.

2. Light snacks and finger foods, perhaps wine, too.

3. People dressed neatly and casually.

4. The artist being friendly and open to questions.

5. Lots of different people from all walks of life.

6. Noise from conversations, sometimes background music...like party noise.

7. Best for last: a LOT of fun looking and talking about art.

Hope to see you at mine!

Restaurants, Eateries, & Food in Homestead, Florida

Homestead, Florida is surprising full of simple and good restaurants. This is a quick list of Andy (my fiancee) and my favorite places. No chain restaurants here! This list includes food places for all appetites. Visit one before my art exhibit opening Once Drove Through Florida at the Children's Gallery and Art Center on the evening of August 20th. If a place was missed, share as a comment, please.

Just want a snack? Try some of the best fruit milkshakes in this world at Robert Is Here.

For pizza and garlic rolls from heaven and a bueno-bonito-barato (good, pretty, cheap) experience, Mamma Mia's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria 2 is unbeatable.

Fresh and local seafood off the truck daily from the Keys can be found at Captain's Restaurant and Seafood. Try their specials, like banana rum scallops.

New place opened in the last year, featuring Chef Jodrick's cooking creations! Stop by and get the best mofongo or Mongolian Beef in the South Florida area. Chefs On the Run of Homestead is the place for gourmet food. Daily specials are posted by Jessica on their Facebook page. You will leave happy!

Mexican food without frills, family owned Rosita's has great chips and salsa, but La Cruzada Taqueria is also one of our favorite eateries. Your choice here, because each is down home Mexican food!

Even Homestead, Florida has a Starbucks. However, if you are looking for traditional Cuban sandwiches, cafe cubano, pastelitos, etc. for a picnic, go to Cuba Bakery. Otherwise, Mario's Latin Cafe has real Cuban food by Cuban cooks.

Suvi Thai and Sushi Restaurant has sushi and thai food. All the food here is wonderful…if you are looking for hot and spicy, pay attention when the servers ask you to rate how hot!

Peking House has the best standard Chinese food.

Mutineer Restaurant has the best range of American foods with steaks and seafood items. You can eat in the formal dining room or at the Wharf Lounge bar.

Salvadorian food is found at Antojitos Mexican and Salvadoreños Restaurante. Try pupusas and other unique items.

Three different ice cream experiences are in Homestead. For Cuban and tropical flavor ice cream, visit 4 JJJJ Pizzeria, Ice Cream, and Restaurant. For Mexican flavors, La Michoacana Mexican was recommended by the Miami Herald. For a more American tradition with a twist, try Scoops Creamery.

Angeline's caveats on this restaurant list she created:
Casual clothing style is allowed at all restaurants. All price ranges are included, starting from $10 per person. Please check each link for prices and perhaps menu items. Please check each link for the hours they are open to the public. Recommended places to visit is created in a different blog post. This tour ends with a visit at the Children's Gallery and Art Center, where you can cool off and get an art experience!

Necessary Evil? Art About Japan

Necessary Evil? ©2011 encaustic techniques, 8 x 8 in.

Necessary Evil? is part of my art exhibit Once Drove Through Florida. When the tsunami hit Japan and the news when nuclear, this was my reaction. As Japan makes decisions about their future, and the world awaits to learn just how much of the Earth has been affected by radiation contamination. If you look at reports by officials from INPO, NEI, and NRC, most of the junk has dissipated and become part of the normal background. Still, decisions are being made all across the Earth of how to deal with our need for electrical energy.

Some past posts that include mention of nuclear power:
