Sketch and Red Wallace Fountains in Paris France

ParisDailyPhoto: Red Wallace Fountain: 'via Blog this'

I could NOT resist re-posting this photo link! Please jump over to her page.

While in Paris, France, these fountains are installed on many a street corner. They are usually a dark green leaf color. There is a steady stream of water flowing in the middle of the women. As these fountains were found, my water bottle and water pen were filled.

Sweet, clear, great tasting water available for free. What a great idea! Thanks to Eric Tenin, now I know the name of these fountains!

Here is a photo of my own, of a Wallace Fountain in the typical green.

Here is a sketch from my trip, just to share part of what I miss of Paris. The pain is eased by our new home that feels very much like a tropical Paris.

ParisDailyPhoto: 11/11/11! Peaceful Veterans' Day

ParisDailyPhoto: 11/11/11!:
'via Blog this'

Remember those who fought and still fight for peace and freedom.

The link to today's ParisDailyPhoto is because France also celebrates their fashion of a Veterans' Day. Today is makes 100 years ago that World War I ended. Also, 60 years ago there was still World War II. Today, we still have wars waging between countries of this world.

As a memory of the veteran who passed out fabric red poppies during Memorial Day, 2009 in Key West, Florida, MyFrenchCountryHome has a gorgeous photo of red poppies. You can find it here: http://myfrenchcountryhome.blogspot.com/2011/11/11-novermber-day-of-remembrance.html

After the Curious Excursion

The first few days in Paris were walk abouts and getting lost. It took a few days to get the hang of the Metro, and even more days to learn how Parisians label their streets. What was learned quickly was to fill pages with sketches and to like watercolor paints.
What did I expect from the Curious Excursion lead by Cynthia Morris?
Cynthia describes her excursion too well on her website for me to reiterate her tour here. You can expect her to deliver all and with bonus experiences. Some of those places had revisits!
If you did jump over to Cynthia's pages, you will notice that the tour is geared for creatives - not just writers. Perhaps you wonder why a visual artist took the excursion?
I craved a good swift kick in the pants into creative stratosphere. The kick was guided by Cynthia, but the experiences were oh so very different for Tonya, Susan, Sabine and I. Here I can only tell you about mine.
1. Cynthia gives a welcome package to each of us. My favorite item is a set of key, or ideas, on how to begin a creative spark. She leaves a few blank cards to add your own, and I may have to add a few self made cards.

 2. Haiku poems are one of Cynthia's favorite ways of jotting an idea or experience. I am already thinking of how to combine my haikus (which after the tour Janis, Elcira and I wrote while giggling) with painting.

3. Creative sparks. Always disliked the word muse because it sounds so ugly. Cynthia gave us ideas on how to keep sparking long after adieu to Paris and our group.
4. 60 pages of a sketchbook journal filled with ideas, sketches, color, and play.
5. Open studio visit with Marcus McAllister truly was a highlight of the excursion for me. Marcus' art and philosophy marks a huge shift in my sketchbook style.
6. La Vert Fee. I dislike licorice, but discovered I like absinthe. Alas, the green fairy did not visit me since we wisely enjoyed dinner with our drinks. Did have a few red, white, and rose fairies vist me (wine)!

7. Water pen, black and brown Pilot pens. Amazing results with just three tools. Ok, ok, I will have to add a 4B pencil and a set of watercolor paint and some glue dots to the list.
8. Permissions. Included are taking sketchbook and watercolor out any where and stopping in the middle of a walk if must to capture a sketch.
9. Making boxes in which to dump simple supplies but especially art prompts that inspire me. This may not be a direct idea from Cynthia, but it is in my journal as a flash of inspiration and spark list.
I fell in LOVE with Paris. Every where you turn there is an eye treat, and it is not just the people watching! The designs, art, architecture...ooo la la! Sensory overload was so high sometimes that I could not sleep for whole nights!
Where and how do you creatively recharge? What do you do when you feel stuck creatively?

Space Invader in Paris Part 2

All around Paris, the artist known as Space Invader adds random mosaics every where. Although I am sure that I did not find all of the mosaics, it was fun trying!!! This is my second and last post with Space Invader's art. Click this sentence to see my first post with different photos.

If Space Invader would to add these whimsies in Miami, where would you want to see them?

The Louvre and the Stolen Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa. The famous portrait of a lady by Leonardo Da Vinci. I remember jumping high enough to see her over a crowd.  Yes, the Mona Lisa is fascinating. She is loved and desired by many, and stolen a few times, too. There was a recent article at ArtInfo.com about stealing the Mona Lisa that summarizes how she was last stolen 1911 by Peruggia. If you want to read more, a quick search in Amazon yields three books by Noah CharneyCarson Morton, and Darian Leader.

The Louvre website is delightfully fun. There is a cartoon character that you can follow that explains a chosen set of artifacts. Go check it out at The Louvre Museum Website.

While I was in Paris, of course I visited the Louvre a couple of times! This was the closest I got to Ms. Mona Lisa...just because there other treasures to enjoy without having to fight a crowd.

Do you have a favorite art treasure at the Louvre? If you were to visit the Louvre, what art treasure is a must-see for you?

7 Lessons from Cynthia's Curious Paris

Business card taped in sketchbook of the Doll House Store,
with the welcome note from Cynthia.

Sketch done of window display of the Doll Store.
Two fun hours were spent there, sketching, searching,
and seeing different displays and items for sale.
Back in May of this year, I described why I joined Cynthia Morris' Curious Paris Excursion. I got so much MORE than I expected!!!!! The excursion ended way too soon, but the length of it was just right. If you were on the excursion like Tonja, Sabine, Sharon, Cynthia, and I, you would understand that contradiction about length of tour!

As a artist with a day job, sometimes my creativity seems to abandon me. My creative soul needs sparks and green fairy visits (more on both on later blog post)! Cynthia gave us ideas on how to continue feeding creativity after going home. Thank you, Cynthia!

Some creative-sparking ideas learned from Curious Paris:
1. Have a running list of inspirational flashes.
2. Amazing results can be obtained with a water and Pilot Precise pens on a sheet of journal paper.
3. The Doll Store gives me AMAZING creative sparks. Keep a tiny version at home and work.
4. Line tracing the horizon, of any place and things, makes a super cool beginning to any page.
5. Small paintings can be just as wonderful as large.
6. Stop and take in the colors! smells! sounds! tastes! touches!
7. Journals and sketchbooks can take many different forms. My favorite is now made with watercolor or mixed media paper.

Coming home was bittersweet. Andy, Mama, Simon, and the Miami, Florida weather welcomed me and eased the pain of leaving part of my heart in Paris, France. If you would like to see more photos, please be patient with me as I upload more to Angie's Paris Album on FlaRider.

What was the source of your best creative ideas? Did you travel to get the ideas? Please share!

The Loo, Water Closet, Toilette, Restroom: Art Designs on Signs

How can I resist a brief post about art and the necessities of life? If you were expecting gross...please skip to another blog. This post truly is about art and design.

Oh, yes, there is art! From the company van waiting for a photo to the restroom stop during a Mont Saint Michel adventure, here are three designs I managed to capture in my camera.

Take a guess what this company can do for you!

This is one type of toilet...thankfully the only
time I saw it. Have you experienced this type
of toilet?

Right next to the other sign, there was a line for this sign.
What a relief (puns intended)!

I have missed my blogging friends and hope to join you on a regular basis again in the next two weeks. Hope you enjoyed this post.

Paris Metro Art Part 1

Paris is a paradise for those who love art and design. There is even art in the Metro (train) stations! This is a small sample of my photos taken inside the Metro system.

There are still plenty of photos about the Metro to share - stay tuned. ;)

This Metro station had more murals - but the tags
have ruined them. Sad!

Save the date! You are invited to share more art at my exhibit  Once Drove Through Florida on at the Children's Gallery and Art Center that runs through September 21st, 2011.

Space Invader Take Over Paris Part 1

Getting lost is an adventure in Paris. After a week, I believe it will happen less. I do not know the artist of these digital mosaic characters, but I love them when they appear. Consider them my good luck charms. Here are the ones found so far, and a toast of wine to finding more!

P.S. To those in the U.S.A....Remember, yet forgive....

Art is Everywhere in Paris

A week ago, I blogged. Since then, here is a quick list of events:

Met, enjoyed, ended the Curious Excursion.
The new friends made are now on individual journeys...including me.
One full sketchbook of collages, watercolors, etc. with a second on its way.
I've fallen in love with Paris.

Enough words...as there are paints, colors, and sights calling me to draw them on paper.

Here are a few photos of the art that you can catch while meandering the streets of Paris. Getting lost has benefits here!

Where you live, are there unexpected pockets of art? Share!

Sketches from Paris

Seems like blogging is going to be a challenge on this adventure in Paris!
St. Eustache Church & random stuff.

The is one fault with the wonderfully central, comfy, cozy apartment: only ONE COMPUTER on wifi at-a-time. When there is only one internet connection…and it has to be shared…makes for limiting any blogging or Facebook experiences. Feels like it is the 1990s. This is the only fault, because the apartment is AWESOME.

In any case, I prefer to spend time else where with a sketchbook, a few macaroons, a glass of wine, a croissant….
My wonderful amour Andy is updating my Facebook page. You can also find the link to my photos here: www.flarider1.smugmug.com and find the gallery called Angie-Paris.
Roses at Restaurant.

These photos are from my sketchbook. Most time is spent exploring, walking, window shopping, sometimes actual shopping, browsing art galleries, and just looking at shiny things. Sometimes, it is appropriate to just fall into a space and draw.

Life is just Parisian keen!!!!
